Lameese Akacem, Ph.D., is a program director in the Division of Training and Workforce Development. She manages grants for the Maximizing Access to Research Careers, Postbaccalaureate Research Education Program, and Advancing Research Careers (ARC) programs. As part of the NIH Diversity Program Consortium (DPC), she manages grants in the Building Infrastructure Leading to Diversity (BUILD) and DPC Dissemination and Translation Awards (DPC DaTA) portfolios. She also manages circadian biology research grants in the Division of Genetics and Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology.
Prior to joining NIGMS, Akacem was an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science and Technology Policy Fellow at the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences. She was also a biology instructor at the University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder), where she taught general biology and human anatomy at the Student Academic Success Center — a multicultural learning community that serves underrepresented, first-generation and low-income students by providing equal opportunity for academic, personal, and career success.
Akacem earned a B.A. and Ph.D. in integrative physiology from CU Boulder. She completed postdoctoral fellowships at Rush University Medical Center and CU Boulder.
