Biographical Sketch: Greg Bissonette, Ph.D.

Greg Bissonette, Ph.D., is the chief of the Scientific Review Branch. He's responsible for overseeing the scientific review officers (SROs) who lead review panels that conduct the initial peer review stage for various NIGMS grants and cooperative agreements.

Bissonette joined NIGMS as chief of review in 2023 after serving as an SRO at the National Institute on Aging, where he ran a variety of high-priority review meetings covering both grants and contracts. These review meetings included program projects, cooperative agreements, training grants, career development awards, resources such as biobanks and information systems, and conference grants. He's been involved in several NIH-wide efforts, leading updates and improvements to NIH’s electronic peer review systems, which have enhanced security and usability for both SROs and reviewers. He also assists the NIH Division of Receipt and Referral in handling applications with potential scientific overlap.

Bissonette earned an interdisciplinary B.S. in biology and psychology with a philosophy minor from Loyola University in Maryland and a Ph.D. in neuroscience from the University of Maryland Baltimore School of Medicine.
