Biographical Sketch: Sydella Blatch Alexander, Ph.D.

Sydella Blatch ​Alexander, Ph.D., is a program director in the Division of Training and Workforce Development ​(TWD). She manages grants for the Graduate Research Training Initiative for Student Enhancement (G-RISE), predoctoral Trans-Departmental Basic Biomedical Sciences, Bridges to the Doctorate, Innovative Programs to Enhance Research Training (IPERT), Biomedical Research Environment and Sponsored Programs Administration Development (BRE-SPAD) Program ​and Institutional Research and Academic Career Development Award (IRACDA) programs. As part of the NIH Diversity Program Consortium​, she manages the Sponsored Programs Administration Development (SPAD) program. Sydella also manages a portfolio of grants on organismal responses to environmental stressors in the Division of Genetics, Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology (GMCDB).

Prior to joining NIGMS, Sydella worked as a program manager in the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease’s Office of Research Training and Development, as director of professional development for the American Society for Cell Biology, and was an associate professor of biology at Stevenson University.

Sydella​ earned a B.S. in biological sciences from the University of Maryland, College Park and a Ph.D. in biology from Arizona State University. She conducted postdoctoral studies at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.
