Biographical Sketch: CDR Marci Wright, Ph.D.

Commander Marci Wright, Ph.D., is a scientific review officer in the Division of Extramural Activities. She coordinates the review of applications for a wide range of grant mechanisms, including institutional training grants (T32/T34), career development awards (K99), and education projects (R25) in the areas of genetics, cellular and molecular biology, sciences, physiology, biophysics, and computational biosciences.

Prior to joining NIGMS, Wright served as a lead program officer for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, National Center for Injury Prevention and Control, National Center for Environmental Health, and Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. Prior to joining CDC, she served as a program officer in the office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR), where she managed the agency’s first extramural research program in science preparedness for rapid disaster response.

As a Commander in the United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, Wright supports the Commissioned Corps’ mission to protect, promote, and advance the health and safety of the nation through providing rapid and effective response to public health emergencies.

Wright earned her B.A. in biology from Williams College and her Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular genetics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She completed a National Biosafety and Biocontainment Postdoctoral Fellowship in biosafety at NIH, and a Science and Technology Policy Fellowship in biosafety and biosecurity at ASPR from the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
