Biographical Sketch: Jean Yuan, Ph.D.

Jean Yuan, M.D., Ph.D., is chief of the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Branch in the Division of Biophysics, Biomedical Technology, and Computational Biosciences. She oversees branch portfolios in development of computational, mathematical, statistical, and data science approaches for biomedical problems, and software/tools that have broad applicability and usage in biomedical research. She also contributes to NIH-wide programs such as data science initiatives from the Office of Data Science Strategy, and the National Science Foundation/NIGMS joint program in mathematical biology.

Prior to joining NIGMS, Yuan was a senior program director at the National Institute on Aging, managing portfolios in data science, translational bioinformatics, drug development, and precision medicine for Alzheimer’s disease. At the NIH Center for Scientific Review, she managed scientific review in biomedical computing, health informatics, mobile health technology/smart devices, and small business innovation research/small business technology transfer health informatics. She also worked at the Office of the Director at NIH and played a key role in developing portfolio analysis tools. Prior to NIH, she was a senior investigator in precision medicine and clinical trials for multiple therapeutic areas at a pharmaceutical​ company. 

Yuan has an M.S. in Computer Science and a Ph.D. in bioinformatics.
