Branch Chief

Division of Biophysics, Biomedical Technology, and Computational Biosciences (BBCB) in the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BCB) Branch
We're seeking a highly qualified branch chief for our Division of Biophysics, Biomedical Technology, and Computational Biosciences (BBCB). Applicants should have interest and experience in the scientific areas managed by the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BCB) Branch. Position responsibilities include: scientific and administrative planning, management, and evaluation; optimization of Branch procedures; and overseeing grant portfolio activities of the Branch program directors. The branch chief will also manage a research grant portfolio and work collaboratively with the Biophysics and Biomedical Technology Branch chiefs and the BBCB division director.

The BCB Branch supports bioinformatics and computational approaches that join biology with the computer sciences, engineering, mathematics, biostatistics, and physics. The Branch also participates in NIH-wide activities, including those with the Office of Data Science Strategy and the BioMath Program, a joint initiative with the National Science Foundation's Division of Mathematical Sciences to support research at the interface of the biological and mathematical sciences. Successful candidates should have expertise in any area of research supported by the Branch. Experience as an NIH scientific administrator is a plus, and outstanding written and oral communication skills are essential. Candidates should have an interest in supervising and mentoring a team of program directors and serving as a leader within the Branch, the Division, and the Institute.

Position responsibilities include scientific and administrative planning, management, and evaluation; optimization of branch procedures; and overseeing grant portfolio activities of the branch program directors. The branch chief will also manage a research grant portfolio and will work closely with the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology and Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (BCB) Branch staff and the BBCB Division Director.

This Supervisory Health Science Administrator position is situated in the Predoctoral Basic Biomedical and Medical Science Training Programs Branch of the Division of Training and Workforce Development (TWD) of NIGMS. The position responsibilities include programmatic and administrative planning, management, and evaluation; optimization of branch procedures; and oversight of grant portfolio activities. The branch chief will also manage a grant portfolio and will work closely with the other TWD branch chiefs and the TWD division director.

TWD funds research training, career development and activities to promote broad participation through a variety of programs at the undergraduate, graduate, postdoctoral, faculty and institutional levels. The overarching goal of the division is to support the development of a diverse pool of individuals with the skills to be successful in the biomedical research workforce and have a significant impact on the health-related research needs of the nation.

Ideal candidates should have outstanding written and oral communication skills and a commitment to enhancing the diversity of the biomedical research workforce are essential. Candidates should have strong interest in supervising and mentoring a team of program directors, and in serving as a leader within the branch, the division, and the institute.

Program Officer

Division of Training and Workforce Development (TWD)
Postdoctoral, Early Career, and Workforce Development Branch

Multiple Positions
TWD is seeking a Program Officer for our Postdoctoral, Early Career, and Workforce Development (PECWD) Branch. PECWD manages individual and institutional research training grants at the postdoctoral level, as well as career development awards. The branch also manages research project grants, professional meetings, research education grants and diversity supplements.

Candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to research training and career development within the biomedical research workforce. Outstanding written and oral communication skills are essential, and familiarity with NIH extramural funding as an applicant, reviewer, or NIH scientific administrator is a plus.

The selected candidate will be responsible for administrative management of a portfolio of research training and workforce development awards as well as research project grants in a scientific discipline. Candidate will be expected to stimulate, plan, advise, direct, and evaluate program activities related to research training, career and workforce development. The incumbent will manage the overall programmatic responsibilities for these areas and will serve as the primary liaison for all interactions within and outside of NIH.

Undergraduate and Predoctoral Cross-Disciplinary Training Branch
The Health Science Administrator position is situated in the Undergraduate and Predoctoral Cross-Disciplinary Training Branch within the Division of Training and Workforce Development (TWD) of NIGMS. This branch manages individual fellowship, institutional research training, and research education grants to support cross-disciplinary undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and predoctoral research training, and to develop the capabilities of institutions to train future scientists.

Candidates are sought with skills and expertise in the areas this branch supports. Outstanding written and oral communication skills are essential. Applicants should have a commitment to applying their scientific knowledge to stewardship of research training and career development awards and to collaborating with peers on a team to accomplish the NIGMS mission.
