Biographical Sketch: Richard Aragon, Ph.D.

Richard Aragon, Ph.D., is director of the Division of Data Integration, Modeling, and Analytics (DIMA). In this role he advises on the Institute’s strategic planning activities, analyzes and evaluates its research and training programs, and serves as its legislative liaison. Prior to joining NIGMS, Aragon held two positions in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Financial Resources within the Office of the HHS Secretary: directing the Division of Program Integrity Assessment, Integration, and Oversight and the Division of Outreach, Communications, and Training. His responsibilities included spearheading implementation of the Secretary’s Initiative on Program Integrity and establishing the agency’s first enterprise risk management framework.

Before that, Aragon was a program director in the Office of Technology and Industrial Relations at the National Cancer Institute. He earned a B.A. in neurobiology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, where he was a participant in what is now the NIGMS Maximizing Access to Research Careers program. Aragon received a Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from George Washington University Medical Center and conducted postdoctoral research at Georgetown University’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center.
