TWD programs foster the training and development of a strong biomedical research workforce. The division supports leadership in training the next generation of scientists in the scientific workforce through a variety of programs at the undergraduate, graduate, postdoctoral, faculty, and institutional levels. The branches and programs are listed below. Cross-Disciplinary Pathway Programs (CPP) Branch

This branch manages dual-degree clinician scientist research training programs, training opportunities at Tribal entities, and awards to support the capacity of institutions and individuals to conduct and commercialize rigorous biomedical research.

Discipline Specific Training (DST) Branch​

This branch manages fellowship programs for clinician scientists, and individual predoctoral institutional basic biomedical research training programs to develop the capabilities of institutions to train students.

Postdoc​toral, Early Career, and Workforce Development (PEWD) Branch

This branch manages competitive individual and institutional research training grants at the postdoctoral level, as well as career development awards. The branch also manages research project grants, professional meetings, research education grants, loan repayment programs, and supplements to promote workforce development across the career pathway​.
