Alexandra Ainsztein, Ph.D., is a program director in the Division of Genetics and Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. She administers research grants in the areas of molecular motor proteins, cytoskeletal filaments, and intracellular transport as well as cell migration. She was the NIGMS point of contact for the Collaborative Program Grant for Multidisciplinary Teams. She's a biochemist and cell biologist whose research focused on the microtubule cytoskeleton, centromeres, and cytokinesis.
Prior to joining NIGMS, Ainsztein served as a scientific review officer in the NIH Center for Scientific Review from 2001-2010.
Ainsztein earned a B.A. in biochemistry from Brandeis University and a Ph.D. in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Florida. She conducted postdoctoral research at Johns Hopkins University, University of Edinburgh, and the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.
