Biographical Sketch: Ashley Barnes, Ph.D.

C. Ashley Barnes, Ph.D., is a program director in the Division of Biophysics, Biomedical Technology, and Computational Biosciences​. He manages a portfolio of grants in the areas of biomedical technology development, research resources, spectroscopy, and structural biology.

Before joining NIGMS, Barnes was a program director in the Office of Research Infrastructure Resources’ Division of Construction and Instruments within the Office of the Director. There, he oversaw a portfolio of construction, instrumentation, equipment, and small business grants.

Barnes earned a Ph.D. in physical chemistry with a specialization in chemical instrumentation from Iowa State University. He conducted his postdoctoral training as an Intramural Research Training Award Fellow at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
