Anissa J. Brown, Ph.D., is chief of the Postdoctoral, Early Career Faculty, and Workforce Development Branch in the Division of Training and Workforce Development. She oversees programs for research training, postdoctoral fellowship, and career development.
Brown is a basic biologist and previously served as chief of the Research Training and Career Development Branch at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, where she managed institutional and individual training awards.
As a previous NIGMS Training and Workforce Development program director, she was the lead program officer for the NIH Diversity Program Consortium’s (DPC’s) Building Infrastructure Leading to Diversity initiative and managed the DPC Dissemination and Translation Awards program. She also managed the Research Initiative for Student Enhancement (RISE) program; Postbaccalaureate Research Education Program (PREP); predoctoral research training grants in cellular, biochemical, and molecular sciences (T32); and the Pathway to Independence Awards (K99/R00). Brown also served as the co-director of the Postdoctoral Research Associate Training (PRAT) program. In addition, she managed research grants in protein synthesis in the Division of Genetics and Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology.
Brown earned a B.A. in biological sciences and psychology and a Ph.D. in biology from the University of Delaware.
