Kimberly Hammer, Ph.D., is a scientific review officer in the Scientific Review Branch. She coordinates the review of a wide range of applications for research capacity building and program project grants including the Support for Research Excellence Award (SuRE) and Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) programs.
Prior to joining NIGMS, Hammer was associate chief of staff for research at the Fargo VA Health Care System, where she directed a research program spanning basic science to clinical research projects.
Hammer earned her B.S. in biotechnology and microbiology from North Dakota State University and her Ph.D. in genetics from Iowa State University. She also conducted postdoctoral work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with funding from both the Department of Defense and NIH.
