Sonia Ortiz-Miranda, M.Sc., Ph.D., is a scientific review officer in the Training, Mentored Research and Diversity (TMRD) section of the ​Scientific Review Branch​, where she oversees the review of research training and education, capacity building, and research grant applications. Before joining NIGMS, Dr. Ortiz-Miranda was an assistant professor in the Department of Neurobiology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School working on the regulation of neurotransmitter release and neuronal communication at synapses. She received her undergraduate and master in general sciences degrees from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras and a Ph.D. in neuroscience from the University of California, Davis.
