Biographical Sketch: Ariel Zane, Ph.D.

Ariel Zane, Ph.D., is the deputy director of the Division of Extramural Activities, which is responsible for all grant-related activities of the Institute, including application receipt, referral and review, and fiscal management of grant awards.

Before coming to NIGMS, Zane led business process optimization and system development in the Research Operations Branch at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. Prior to that, she was a team lead in the Data Analytics Research Branch at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, where she oversaw efforts in data integration, visualization, and analysis in support of scientific program de​velopment and administration.

Zane earned a B.S. in chemistry from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Washington. She was a postdoctoral Intramural Research Training Award fellow at the National Institute on Aging.
