Sonia Ortiz-Miranda, M.Sc., Ph.D., is a scientific review officer in the Scientific Review Branch, where she oversees the review of research training and education, capacity building, and research grant applications. 

Before joining NIGMS, Ortiz-Miranda was an assistant professor in the department of neurobiology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, working on the regulation of neurotransmitter release and neuronal communication at synapses. 

Ortiz-Miranda earned a undergraduate degree and master's in general sciences from the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras, and a Ph.D. in neuroscience from the University of California, Davis.
