I'm pleased to share three changes to our leadership team at NIGMS.

Erica Brown will serve as acting deputy director of NIGMS following Dorit Zuk’s retirement. As our acting deputy director, Erica will oversee and provide leadership on all NIGMS matters.

Erica has served in several leadership roles at NIH. Most recently, she was the director of the Division of Extramural Activities (DEA) and the executive secretary of the National Advisory General Medical Sciences Council.

As director of DEA, she oversaw the grant-related activities of the Institute, including grants policies and procedures; the development of funding opportunities; and the receipt, referral, review, and fiscal management of grants.

Ariel Zane will step in to serve as acting director of DEA and executive secretary of the National Advisory General Medical Sciences Council.

She was previously DEA's deputy director, a role in which she supported the Institute's broad range of grant-related activities. Before coming to NIGMS, Ariel held leadership positions in process optimization, system development, and data analysis at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Jennifer Levithan will serve as the Institute's acting executive officer following Sally Lee's retirement. She will lead the Division of Management, a team responsible for managing our administrative policies and planning, including those related to acquisitions, financial management, information technology, human capital, ethics, continuity of operations, and records management.

Jen was previously the deputy executive officer at NIGMS. Prior to joining NIGMS, she was the deputy executive officer for the NIH Office of the Director.

Please join me in welcoming Erica, Ariel, and Jen to their new roles.
