We’re pleased to announce that the IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) funding opportunity announcement (FOA) (PAR-23-100) has been issued. INBRE funds one statewide network of higher education and research institutions in each Institutional Development Award (IDeA)-eligible state and Puerto Rico to build biomedical research capacity through supporting faculty research and mentoring, student participation in research, and infrastructure enhancements at network institutions.

The successful applicants will be responsible for scientific and administrative management of a portfolio of research grants and/or research training and career development awards, and will stimulate, plan, advise, direct, and evaluate program activities related to their field of expertise.

The DRCB position involves overseeing grants supporting research and providing resources for research infrastructure enhancement and capacity building in the basic, translational, and clinical biomedical sciences. The chosen candidate will manage Institutional Development Award​ and Native American Research Centers for Health programs, and may contribute to other programmatic activities as opportunities and needs emerge. We’re recruiting scientists for positions in our Division for Research Capacity Building (DRCB); Division of Genetics and Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (GMCDB); and Division of Training, Workforce Development, and Diversity (TWD). The successful applicants will be responsible for scientific and administrative management of a portfolio of research grants, research training and career development awards, and/or capacity building awards, and will stimulate, plan, advise, direct, and evaluate program activities related to their field of expertise.

In September, we hosted a virtual meeting for investigators and students supported by the Institutional Development Award (IDeA) program to introduce them to strategic initiatives from NIH leaders in response to COVID-19, and to highlight scientific progress by IDeA researchers. We were pleased with the overwhelming response from the IDeA community—there were approximately 750 attendees and more than 180 abstracts submitted.

We’re recruiting for an accomplished scientist with expertise in strategies and methodologies to design and operate productive research, outreach networks, and development programs to join our Division for Research Capacity Building (DRCB). The successful applicant will be responsible for scientific and administrative management of a diverse research portfolio of faculty development, research training, and research infrastructure improvement grants.  

The Networks and Development Programs Branch of DRCB leads the Division’s efforts in developing and implementing innovative ideas to enhance research and technology transfer infrastructure and the workforce pipeline. The Branch also shares in managing the grant portfolios supported by all funding initiatives of the Division. 

Our Northeast IDeA State Technology Transfer Accelerator Hub, which supports biomedical entrepreneurship, is hosting a workshop for research core directors, postdoctoral fellows, and others supported by NIGMS grants who are interested in learning more about the business side of academic research facility management:

The workshop will introduce helpful business skills to ease management and improve the top and bottom lines of IDeA research core facilities.
