We’re recruiting accomplished scientists for program officer positions in the Division of Biophysics, Biomedical Technology, and Computational Biosciences (BBCB). The selected candidates will be responsible for scientific and administrative management of a portfolio of research grants, and will stimulate, plan, advise, direct, and evaluate program activities related to their field of expertise.

The NIH Common Fund’s Transformative High Resolution Cryo-Electron Microscopy (cryo-EM) program is requesting input from the community in identifying challenges in screening samples for high resolution cryo-EM, an essential step required for data collection at the National Centers for Cryo-EM. We welcome responses from researchers interested in cryo-EM, including those who have not previously worked in the field.

NIH has issued two funding opportunity announcements (FOAs) to advance the application of cryo-electron tomography (cryo-ET), a powerful imaging method for directly visualizing macromolecular associations and organization in native cells. The first FOA, RFA-RM-19-009, will establish four service centers that will specialize in cryo-ET specimen preparation. The other FOA, RFA-RM-19-010, in addition to cryo-ET specimen preparation, will establish a network hub that will support these service centers and collect cryo-ET images for their users.

NIH is requesting input from the community on scientific opportunities, critical needs and strategies for realizing the scientific potential of cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM). The request for information (RFI) seeks input from researchers, institutions, professional societies and others interested in cryo-EM, including those who have not done any work in the area but have an interest in doing so in the future. The RFI solicits input on a number of topics, including but not limited to:

• Cryo-EM needs and capacity.
• Workforce development and training.
• Technology development.
