Clinical Resources for Investigators Applying to NIGMS
Investigators are strongly encouraged to consult with NIGMS staff at the earliest stages to plan research grant applications that might involve Clinical Studies and Trials.
Clinical Training, Career Development, and Fellowship Awards
NIGMS supports clinical research training for institutions and individuals. Programs include:
- Institutional Postdoctoral Training Grants (T32)
- Mentored Career Development Awards (K08, K23)
- Individual Postdoctoral National Research Service Awards (F32)
Small Business Awards Offered in Clinical Areas
NIGMS supports research and development conducted by U.S. small businesses for activities that have strong potential for commercialization. Programs include:
- Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR, R43/R44)
- Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR, R41/R42)
NIGMS also participates in the Commercialization Readiness Pilot (CRP) program designed to facilitate the transition of previously funded SBIR and STTR Phase 2 and Phase 2B projects to the commercialization stage by providing additional support for technical assistance.
Multidisciplinary Teams/Collaborative Research Awards Offered in Clinical Areas
The NIGMS Collaborative Program Grant for Multidisciplinary Teams (RM1) can support an application from a highly integrated team of investigators addressing a single-focus, ambitious, and challenging project that cannot be achieved with individual research grant awards.
A clinical research topic must be central to the NIGMS mission and based in the institute's clinical areas of interest. Advance consultation with staff is highly recommended.
