Biographical Sketch: Douglas Dluzen, Ph.D.

Douglas Dluzen, Ph.D., is a scientific review officer in the Division of Extramural Activities. He coordinates a variety of reviews and special emphasis panels related to fellowships and research training and education grant applications. These include career development awards (F99 and K99), education projects (R25), and institutional training grants (T32).

Prior to NIGMS, Dluzen was director of doctoral and postdoctoral life design at Johns Hopkins University. Before Johns Hopkins, he was a senior science writer and editor in the Office of Communications and Public Liaison at the National Institute of Minority Health and Health Disparities. Additionally, he has been an assistant professor of biology at Morgan State University, where he taught evolutionary biology and genetics and conducted research on the social determinants of cardiovascular health.

Dluzen earned a B.S. in molecular and cellular biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Ph.D. in genetics from Pennsylvania State University. He did his postdoctoral work at the National Institute on Aging.
