NIGMS supports scientific research resources that provide the biomedical research community access to valuable research facilities and tools as well as expertise and training in the use of these resources. They also provide greater efficiency through economies of scale. Many of these resources feature costly instrumentation that requires expertise to successfully maintain and operate. Other resources maintain and widely distribute software tools and reagents. Several programs exist to support these resources.
