This image shows a normal fibroblast, a type of cell that is common in connective tissue and frequently studied in research labs. Unlike the spiky version, this cell has a healthy skeleton composed of actin (red) and microtubules (green). Actin fibers act like muscles to create tension and microtubules act like bones to withstand compression.
