Notice of COBRE Phase 1 Change in Institutional Eligibility

We’re pleased to announce the publication of notice NOT-GM-23-040 introducing a change in the institutional eligibility criteria for applications to our Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) Phase 1 (P20).

COBRE supports the establishment and development of innovative biomedical research centers at Institutional Development Award (IDeA)-eligible institutions through three sequential 5-year phases. COBRE Phase 1 awards build capacity in an area of biomedical research through the establishment of a center of excellence that helps develop a critical mass of investigators who are able to compete effectively for independent research funding and improve infrastructure in the center's area of research.

Beginning with the upcoming January 30, 2024, due date, institutions holding up to a combined total of three (instead of two currently) COBRE Phase 1 and Phase 2 (PAR-23-063) awards at the time of application submission are eligible to apply. More specifics are included in the notice.

If you have questions about this change, please contact Federico Bernal.
