We’re pleased to announce the creation of informational videos on completing the NIH training tables. These videos take you through completing the NIH tables for undergraduate and graduate research training grant applications and, when applicable, research performance progress reports.

Last year, NIH implemented a data management and sharing (DMS) policy to promote the sharing of scientific data. The policy requires that NIH grantees submit a DMS plan as part of their grant application. The great news is that most of our grantees already meet NIH’s DMS requirements, which we explain more fully in a list of FAQs.

How Do I Manage the Post-Award Process?

We’re pleased to announce a presubmission webinar for the NIH Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA) program (PAR-23-137). The next application due date is June 7, 2024.

SEPA supports educational activities for pre-kindergarten to grade 12 to ensure that students and teachers from all communities and regions of the country have the opportunity to pursue studies in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). SEPA also supports informal STEM education activities outside the classroom. 

We’ve issued a new notice: NIGMS Support to Utilize Data and Biospecimens Generated by the ARDS, Pneumonia, and Sepsis (APS) Phenotyping Consortium (NOT-GM-24-018). The purpose is to inform investigators that we’ll support studies that fall within the NIGMS mission and utilize biospecimens or data generated from the APS Consortium.

We’re seeking two highly qualified scientists to serve as program directors in the Genetic Mechanisms Branch (GMB) and the Developmental and Cellular Processes Branch (DCPB) of our Division of Genetics and Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (GMCDB).

GMCDB supports research grants focused on understanding the structure and function of cells and cellular components and the cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie inheritance, gene expression, and development. All prospective candidates should have expertise in the mechanism and regulation of genetics including basic molecular processes, cellular biology, and/or developmental biology.

We’re recruiting accomplished scientists for program officer positions in the Division of Biophysics, Biomedical Technology, and Computational Biosciences (BBCB). The selected candidates will be responsible for scientific and administrative management of a portfolio of research grants, and will stimulate, plan, advise, direct, and evaluate program activities related to their field of expertise.

We’re seeking a highly qualified scientist to serve as a scientific review officer in the Scientific Review Branch (SRB) of our Division of Extramural Activities.

SRB conducts the initial evaluation for scientific and technical merit of applications for funding through grants and cooperative agreements in areas of research that NIGMS supports. SRB’s key mission is to ensure that NIGMS grant applications receive expert, timely peer review, while avoiding bias and conflicts of interest in accordance with federal law and departmental policies.

The previous post in this series covered tips for crafting a strong grant application. However, the reality is that not all applications will be funded.

We’re seeking a highly qualified scientist to serve as a program director in our Division of Pharmacology, Physiology, and Biological Chemistry (PPBC). This is a newly created position for the Division as it reorganizes into three Branches. Applicants should have significant interest and experience in the scientific areas comprising the newly formed Chemistry and Chemical Biology Branch. The purpose of the Branch is to foster meritorious research in chemical biology, synthetic biology, chemical catalysis and synthesis, carbohydrate chemistry, natural products, bioinorganic chemistry, and metabolic engineering. We seek candidates with cutting-edge skills and abilities who can complement existing Branch members.
